JOHN MASHBURN VISION FUND
Donation protected
This is my father, John Mashburn. For the past few years, he has been struggling with advanced macular degeneration. This condition is caused by a deterioration of the retina. More specifically, the central portion called the Macula.
He was deemed legally blind in one eye last year and the other eye is declining quickly. There is currently no known cure for Macular Degeneration, but there are things you can do to possibly slow the progression. In John’s case, his eyes are no longer responding to treatments covered by insurance.
He has recently been accepted to a clinical trial called, Stem Cell Ophthalmology Treatment Study (SCOTS). It is an experimental treatment study conducted in Florida and is 100% patient funded.
The procedure utilizes stem cells extracted from the patient’s own bone marrow to help rebuild macular cells. Although the trial is experimental, over 250 patients have participated in the study and have experienced overwhelmingly positive results.
He must travel to Florida and stay for a week for the treatment and must pay for the procedure out of pocket. There have been many success stories from the treatment. We feel like this is one last opportunity to help restore his vision. The cost of this procedure is $20,000, and does not include travel expenses.
I am asking for anyone who is capable to please help with this campaign! Anything at all would be greatly appreciated. He is very fortunate to have been chosen for this procedure. Hopefully, he can have new sight and maybe get to umpire a few more games!
We also will be selling baked goods at Arthur Lady baseball field in Johnson City on Tuesdays and Thursday's at 5:30pm, come out for some amazing treats made by some fantastic bakers!!
We would like to invite everyone to help us in this endeavor and make a donation to this man who has given so much to the community.
