Johnny Dark Memorial Scholarship Fund

Hello You!!! My name is Shelly Dark Pelaez and my father, Johnny Dark, was a legendary disc jockey with a successful career spanning 60+ years. He passed in 2016 at the age of 82. I have started a scholarship fund and a memorial website that links to this page. The site will allows everyone from broadcast enthusiasts to those who knew him personally the opportunity to participate in the continuation of his story and legacy. This $2,500 scholarship (beginning Spring 2022) will be awarded yearly to a graduating Maryland senior who wishes to pursue a career in media and embodies the qualities important to my Dad:

 

The Four P's

Perfection (or at least striving for it)

Passion ("Discover what you love and make a profession out of it")

Professionalism (everything that entails)

Persistence (Keep at it!)

 

The student must have been accepted to a college or trade school for the following Fall. The scholarship money will be earmarked for tuition assistance, books, and any necessary technology needed to successfully complete classes.

 

Additionally, my Dad always made time to do charitable work in the community - everything from coaching little league sports to chairing on the Board for the Childrens' Cancer Foundation. The selected student should be able to show some form of community or charity work during their school career.

 

Lastly, my Dad lost his father in high school and his family fell upon hard times. He persevered in pursuing his dream while also helping support his family. Special consideration will be given to any applicants who have cleared difficult personal hurdles while maintaining their studies.
