Johnny needs a good life; let's help him get it.

We need your help again. Johnny came to us from a county shelter where there was not much chance of him getting out. You can see his right eye is not functional, but his left eye also needs treatment to save that vision. He is now battling a bad case of kennel cough. He needs neutering of course, we expect that, but he also has a luxating patella which will require surgery if he is to use the leg properly. He’s only 6 years old.

We will apply for a grant for the eye surgery but enucleation (the surgical removal of an eye) is expensive and so is the surgery for entropion (the condition where the eyelid turns inward and the eyelashes scrape the eye.) We’ve all had an eye lash that bothered us for some short period but that ongoing irritation can cause infections, damage to the cornea, and vision loss. Even with any grant money we receive, IF we get anything, we will still have a very large vet bill.

Here’s the thing, he was abused. He was probably kicked in the head to lose that eye and we don’t know what else happened to him. He is miserable as can be with the kennel cough and when he looks at people you can hear him thinking, “Please don’t hurt me”. It breaks our hearts and we have promised no one will ever hurt him again and we mean to make him as whole as possible and as loved as he can be.

We know that money is tight; inflation is nibbling away every month. We see that in the rescue accounts, but we also know that little bits add up. Five dollars here, ten dollars there.
