Fundraiser for John P. Cavaleri

John P. Cavaleri has been a Boston firefighter with Ladder 18 on D. Street in South Boston, MA for 18 years. In 2012 I had the honor of officiating John's marriage to my beautiful aunt Karen and they set out to start a new life with their blended families.  A year ago, Johnny was diagnosed with Hepatocellular cancer; more commonly known as liver cancer.  John underwent a chemotherapy embolization to treat the cancer and was put on a waiting list for a transplant.  Miraculously, on July 31st, John received a call from the hospital about a donor liver!  He underwent transplant surgery at Mass General Hospital and the transplant was successful!  John has a long road ahead of him in his recovery and he will have to take anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life.  He has to be monitored closely every day for infections and is unable to be in crowded places or near anyone who is sick.   There are excess out of pocket care expenses he and Karen have incurred.
