The Schumann's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
John Schumann. Loving Husband and Father. My Brother and Friend. Devoted Son. Hard worker. There to help at a moment's notice. Kind. And now, courageously fighting cancer. He needs our help!
John is 31 years old and loves his life, his family, friends and most of all his wonderful wife Ashley, and kids Porter (7), Ryker (5), Jacey (3), and Taggart (9 months). He also loves the outdoors whether he's backpacking, hunting, or fishing - a love instilled in him by our Dad and Fishing Buddy.
Less than a year ago, our father was diagnosed with his second occurrence of Oral Cancer. Our family supported and cared for him during his fight for his life. There were a lot of days and nights spent at the hospital by his side. After many complications, his hospital stay stretched from weeks into months. When the cancer came back for the third time in October, Dad came home with only weeks to live. During this time, John used all of his vacation, sick leave, comp time and emergency savings to be with his dad, but he has no regrets because the last moments he spent with his dad will never be forgotten. Our courageous dad showed all of us how to fight and to never give up. Dad's example of strength while battling cancer is now preparing John in his own valiant fight against stage 3 testicular cancer.
John began to have problems with pain in September before our dad's passing on October 26th. Just before Christmas, after weeks of pain and multiple visits with Doctors and his Urologist, they found a large tumor about the size of a softball near his left kidney and surrounding his Aorta. Doctors also found a tumor in his left testicle and he was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer. Our dad's fight with cancer had just ended and now John's has just begun.
Because of the pain and the effects of the chemo treatments, John is unable to work. He loves his work because of the joy it brings him in helping others, as well as his own family. John is under a lot of pressure and stress as he tries to find a way to support his family while undergoing treatment without an income. The estimated treatment time of chemo and surgery is 16 weeks and he just started his first round of chemo this week. John is exhausted, but has been given a lot of strength through loving people, his family, and many friends.
We are truly blessed. John has faith in our Father in Heaven and in His plan. Chemo is going to be challenging but John feels prepared because of the courageous example of our dad. Anything you can donate toward medical costs, living expenses, or donations for his fight against cancer would be a great help to John and his family and much appreciated!
