Hi All! Thank you for taking the time to read about Adam and Jess and their journey to becoming parents. These are two humble, kind, and generous people. So getting their permission to start this GoFundMe was a little tough. Not because they don’t need financial support, but because they aren’t ones to ask others for help, especially financial help. However, they both realize that achieving their goal of becoming parents is going to be a very costly process, and they DO, in fact, need our support. The IVF process that they are going to be starting could cost upwards of $20,000! Obviously, that is a major hurdle. And one that most of us never have to worry about. Having a child is a beautiful time in our lives, but for Adam and Jess, the struggle with medical issues, coupled with the outrageous financial burden, is stressful, to say the least. While they are going through the process, Jess will create a CaringBridge page so we can follow their journey!
Jess’s infertility comes from a rare pituitary tumor from when she was younger. At the age of 22, Jess was diagnosed with Acromegaly which was causing havoc through her body and was producing massive amounts of growth hormone. This led to 3 brain surgeries and 6 weeks of proton beam radiation at Mayo Clinic. During this time, Jess learned that she would be unable to conceive a child in the traditional method. But Jess knew she wanted to be a mom and wife, and she is already an incredible wife and mother to be.
I’ll share a little about my friends and their lives and passions. Adam is in his second year as a high school principal, after being a beloved math teacher at our school for 9 years. He is such a giving person, if something is happening in the school you can bet he is involved! He spends many, many extra hours in the evenings and on the weekends creating fun opportunities for Hill City students. From lock-ins to bingo, to playing Mario Kart with students, he is an energetic and beloved teacher, coach, and now principal. He is the football coach, too, and works on a race car for dirt track racing.
Jess is also super involved at the school. She is the Swarm advisor, which is our student leadership group. She helps the students plan everything from homecoming, to toy drives, to service projects. This year, she is also an Americorp tutor at Hill City School. In addition to her work at school, Jess is a really talented baker. She makes custom cakes and cupcakes, and anyone local knows that if you want a great celebration, you call Jess for your baked goods! She spends a lot of time volunteering for her church, Hill City Assemblies of God. From senior lunches to youth groups, Jess is dedicated to giving back to her community this way.
Takeaway: Jess and Adam are generous, selfless people. They love kids and spend so much of their time working with and for the students in our school district. They will be amazing parents, and with our financial support, they will be one step closer to their dream.
