My name is Valley and I am Alexia's aunt. Alexia (34 years old), was recently diagnosed with pleomorphic spindle cell sarcoma. This diagnosis will require rigorous and aggressive treatment and time off from work. Her doctors are estimating around 5 months of chemotherapy with radiation, followed by a surgery. She is looking at a minimum of a year of treatments and surgical recovery. Surgery won't occur until after chemo/radiation to ensure her body has the best chance at healing with little to no complications.
Alexia and her husband are a two-income family with two young children. Alexia has already started using her FMLA leave due to the frequency of her medical appointments. Alexia's short term disability through her work will cover 60% of her salary for 16 weeks, this will not be enough to carry her through her entire treatment/surgical course. All funds raised will go directly to Alexia to assist her with paying her mortgage, childcare, and medical expenses not covered by her insurance. Due to the nature of her husband's work (truck driver), he has limited time off.
Now, here is a bit about Alexia. She was born in Alaska and grew up a military brat. She has lived across the United States from South Dakota, Mississippi, Georgia, Colorado, and California. The military life instilled a skill to build friendships wherever she goes. As a child, she spent her summers on the Kenai Peninsula at her family's commercial fishing site where hard work was ingrained in her. She has been married to her husband Juan for 10 years, and they have two children, a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old.
I understand if you are not able to donate at this time, in lieu of monetary donations please take a second and share Alexia's story.
Updates will be forthcoming.
