The Need
Our dear Amy was diagnosed in October, 2019, with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). This is a rarer and more aggressive cancer with fewer treatment options than other breast cancers. Moreover, the most worrisome part of having TNBC is that it has a high recurrence rate, typically within the first 2-3 years of diagnosis and, if it returns, often shows up in the lungs, liver, brain, or bones. Amy had surgery in November, 2019, and has been treated for the complication of lymphedema since then. She began chemotherapy in December and it is ongoing. Chemo and subsequent radiation are expected to last until late July, 2020. Amy has faced these challenges head-on, even when there are times of darkness and sickness. She is a true warrior and, when she stumbles, gets back up again and fights for her life. On top of all this, $15,000 of out-of-pocket medical expenses have accumulated, and that doesn’t even include unexpected expenses, extra childcare for her 6-year-old daughter, or future anticipated costs.
The Person
At 48, Amy has touched many lives as a leadership coach, trainer, consultant, keynote speaker, co-worker, friend, neighbor, and family member. She is creative, intelligent, enthusiastic, fun, and deeply empathetic. Amy moved to Pinehurst about a year ago and maintains strong personal and professional ties here in Greensboro and nearby areas. In August, she married the love of her life “for better or worse, in sickness and in health.” (Sorry, Christian, that the worse/sickness came so soon, but you have been an amazing support to Amy during this time!). Amy’s daughter, Gracie, is a ball-of-energy first-grader. She likes stuffed animals, her doggies, and bossing the rest of us around. She doesn’t exactly understand what’s going on, but I assure you that she is surrounded by love.
The Request
It is a privilege for those of us who know Amy to give back a little in support of her biggest struggle. Maybe you don’t know Amy but know someone whose life has been touched by her or affected in a similar way. For whatever reason, you are invited to join Amy’s network of support. No donation is too small to help make a difference in keeping Amy focused on her survival and not her finances. Every gesture of goodwill, however you express that, will be gratefully received and deeply appreciated.
A note from the fundraiser: My heart is overflowing with love and concern for Amy. I will include details in my personal communications, and I know other friends and family members will do the same. I sincerely thank you.
