In 1974, my Granddaughter, Jennifer, was born 4 months early, weighing slightly more than 1 pound - a real preemie. Despite being given very poor odds, she did survive and has surprised doctors and educators with her amazing progress many times over. For example, she never missed a single day of school as she grew up and seems to have inherited a superior immune system. Many credit her grandmother for such survival grit and excellent health! Her early experiences in intensive care at such an early stage of development however did result in a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. She is in a wheelchair and has limited use of her limbs, except for her left arm. Today, she is 50 years of age and I am so proud of Jenny who has, against all odds, survived and prospered. She's a real fighter.
I was born on October 1st, 1917 and my goal today is to acknowledge the arrival of my upcoming 107th birthday by holding a charity fundraiser that starts on September 14th, the 17th day before my birthday. This will provide me many days to create additional awareness of those afflicted with cerebral palsy and ask you to donate to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation for their incredible research, accomplishments, and advancements in the past several decades. Each day of the 17 days prior to my own celebration on October 1, 2024, together with my many friends at my assisted living, we will do a new ‘reach-out’ to fill you in on our progress and to find new and innovative ways to make our goal of $1,070 a reality. You'll see us on Facebook and other social media. Will you join me in making a difference? Thanks in advance for your contribution that can help change the lives of people with cerebral palsy.
