Hi, my name is Nathan (32) and my wife's name is Ashling (29), and we have wonderful, spontaneous, beautiful little boy, Jaxtyn (3). In mid January Ashling was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer. We started chemo the first week of February, and the journey begin. From our understanding, triple negative breast cancer is an "uncommon" cancer but "more common" in younger patients. (20's & 30's). Yea, imagine that being explained to you, uncommon yet common, makes sense.. We're a family that use to always be on the go, trying to take our boy to do something every chance we got. The zoo, aquarium, parks, just anything that would make his day. A lot of that has slowed down but we still do our best to get out and go somewhere on momma's good day's. No one is every prepared for this. My opinion no one should ever have to go through this. Since February 7th, we have been on a weekly chemo schedule. 12, rounds, 12 weeks. This was the first plan of action. There were 2 separate times that we had to skip chemo due to a low white blood cell count. The second plan of action is a more aggressive chemo, every 3 weeks for 12 weeks, so 4 rounds. Then surgery and so on until she kicks cancers ass. Everything at first was so overwhelming, an emotional roller coaster. Then it gets numb, then it feels like it's the new normal, that it's just part of your life now. That part is what I will not accept. Cancer will not become our new normal. God has our back on this one and my wife will not back down. On top of everything that she is dealing with, on top of being in the fight of her life. She's still a mom and she's still a wife. She hasn't missed a beat on that. She's tough.
Anything you can help with will go a long way. Between everyday bills to medical bills to the nutrition she should be eating. Every little bit helps, even if all you can do is share this.
We cannot begin to put into words how much we appreciate every one of you that has been here for us. It's not fun journey by any means but it's still a journey that we will look back on and remember how strong we are, even on the hardest days.
Thank you.
