Join Ben & Sochi's Fight Against Lead Poisoning

Hi, this is Ben & Sochi from Mithras Candle in Philadelphia. The little guy in the picture is our son Beau. Just over a year ago we got word that his blood lead levels were above the CDC cutoff, which began a nightmare mountain of legal stress for our family involving the city. Our fixer-upper house had lots of old lead paint and dust that was probably released when we had the roof repaired just after he was born and there were dozens of pages worth of interior and exterior repairs needing to be made. There were nights where we were so anxious that we couldn't sleep, trying to figure out where money was coming from to fix the many issues and to keep everyone safe without moving. While we're relieved to share that Beau's levels are returning to normal and the interior of our home has been remediated and cleared - the city is still enforcing full remediation of the entire property... so we still have the exterior to do, which is a massive job. The first exterior area on the list is the porch and front area which is estimated to cost near 8-10k. The entire exterior will cost in the 35-40k range. We're hoping to do as much as we can, quickly - to satisfy the matter with the city, keep the kids safe and move on with our lives. Still, we might have to do the work piecemeal over time depending on funds - not sure how we'll do it but are having a lot more hope now that we've come this far through the leaded gauntlet.
