Hello my name Brittany I am starting a GOFUNDME for myself but really my son i have recently come into a heartbreaking situation. I am a single mom to a loving, happy, precious little boy who has recently been diagnosed with severe life threatening obstructive sleep apnea. The last 2 years I’ve searching for answers as my son has been sick non stop for the last 2 years and doctors kept telling me that everything was normal and the first 2 years of schooling is the worst and he would be sick non stop. February 22, 2024. I took it upon myself to take him to a different doctor where he told me on the spot that day what was probably wrong with him we went for more testing and it confirmed that not only was my son sick but that he is at the point where he is losing his fine motor skills as well as cognitive. So as any mother would do, I ran into a panic and started taking him to every specialist I could think of and they informed me your son is going to need surgery. We will put him on an emergency list so if all the surgeons are in the OR that day, your son will come in so and we will call you. They told me your son’s heart stops and he stops breathing 178 times through an eight hour sleep That day, the doctor said has anyone explained what’s going on with your son? I said they told me the results but they didn’t exactly say what was really going on. In front of my child they told us one is he’s losing a lot because he has no oxygen going to his brain, his eye is shifting Due to no oxygen on his blood vessel, his heart valves need oxygen picture yourself being suffocated and having to re-resuscitate yourself 180 times while sleeping and being five have you ever been suffocated if you do not take care of this life expectancy is 8-18 years old. That day everything changed for us we got in the car. He started to cry. I asked him why are you crying? He said mommy you heard them. I’m going to die working in a hospital and being in the medical field I turned to him and told him I promise I will never let anything happen to you. I promise you I will do whatever I have to to save your life. Trust your mommy because I will fix this. It doesn’t matter what it cost what I have to do, it doesn’t matter I will save you. We get a phone call about two weeks ago saying go for pre-surgical testing. Your son surgery is May 15 and we cannot send him home so he will be in the ICU for quite some time. I need you to be prepared and understand how severe this is. And I didn’t have a choice to find surgeons doctors. Anything I had to take whatever team they had because there was no time. They also informed me that they need to implant a device that when his heart stops and he stops breathing even after surgery that it shakes him as if he was having a seizure to wake him up to start breathing again. I have also recently found out that it is not 100% covered under insurance and it is $17,000 out of pocket cost. After exhausting all resources I don’t know what more I can do except ask for help. I am trying my hardest to do it on my own but with me being out of work and only receiving half a pay check bills medical co pays medication I just can not physically do it on my own. Any help towards my son would be greatly appreciated. This fundraiser is strictly for my son to get the medical treatment he needs.
