Hello everyone,
On behalf of Bryson I am starting a GoFundMe. Bryson has been battling for the past 2 and a half months a very rare autoimmune disorder called nmdar encephalitis, Only 1 in 100,000 people unfortunately get this diagnosis. Nmdar encephalitis causes his bodies cells to attack his brain causing it to swell. Our fun loving, life of the party dancing baby boy has gone from being the most active to almost loosing his life several times. His condition came with no warning signs. There was nothing we could have done to prevent it. It started with seizures which slowly progressed to him having difficulty walking, difficulty talking and struggling to eat. We went to 3 different hospitals before we landed at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell university hospital where they made his official diagnosis. They have treated my son with the upmost kindness, love and care.
Bryson has now completely lost his ability to walk talk and relies on a feeding tube to be able to eat. As a mother it pains me to watch my child deteriorate right before my eyes. Bryson has also along with his encephalitis has been diagnosed with something called catatonia. Catatonia causes him to be aggressive with himself and others and makes him move his limbs erratically in ways that he cannot control. One thing about Bryson even through all this he is strong and a fighter.
Bryson so far has had 1 round of steroids, 5 rounds of IVIG treatments,5 rounds of a medication called rituximab that helps stop the production of the cells that is attacking his brain. He is currently on his 3rd out of 7 plasma exchange treatments. He is showing signs of slow but steady progress. It will take Bryson possibly 6-9 months or a year for him to fully or almost fully recover. Once he is in more of a stable condition he will be transferred to an intensive care rehab to help him relearn how to walk, talk, and do basic things. We are asking for help with medical costs and financial strain with my fiancé Steven being the only one working. He was recently on his way to visit us in the hospital after work when he got into a hit and run accident on the cross island parkway. They hit him from behind and left him pinned against the highway barrier. He had to crawl out of his window to be able to get out of his car. Thank god for keeping his hand over my son and my fiancé and keeping them safe. If you choose to help and anything does we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To everyone that has supported us emotionally and checked in on us physically thank you. We will keep you all updated on Bryson's recovery and healing!
