JOIN IICA – COVID 19 CHALLENGE!
Help us fight food insecurity in the Caribbean
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, the population in the Americas –the most unequal region in the world –and particularly in the Caribbean region, faces a complex scenario.
The slowdown in global economic growth has had a severe impact on the region, highlighting its dependence on food imports. As a result of the pandemic, the agricultural workforce has diminished, restrictions on basic supplies have increased, and income has decreased, among other effects. These issues are further aggravated by climate change, prolonged drought conditions in the region, difficulties associated with the development gap between urban and rural areas, limited access to public services, a poor health infrastructure, wage gaps, gender discrimination, job insecurity, etc.
The Caribbean needs your help! Join this challenge and let us combat the food insecurity that this crisis is causing in the region.

ABOUT IICA
The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) is the specialized agency for agriculture of the Inter-American System (OAS), with 34 Member States of the Americas. In this context of global economic and health crisis, IICA is promoting this initiative which will go directly to the benefit of 7 communities in Antigua & Barbuda and Haiti, which are already beneficiaries of IICA projects, but whose living conditions have been seriously impacted by this pandemic.
Through its five hemispheric programmes, IICA identifies and implements cooperation actions, provides advice and technical support to governments and other social and economic actors in agriculture and rural life in the Americas.
In addition, since the start of the pandemic, IICA has implemented a Monitor for Food Security in the Americas, that includes an in-depth report on the agri-food situation in the region and that has allowed detecting those countries most affected; Antigua & Barbuda and Haiti among them.
