Join Coach Scruggs' Fight Against Cancer

Coach John Mark Scruggs has been battling Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) since December of 2017. Last month, our family discovered that he had developed a rare case of Richter's Transformation, which transformed his CLL into a more aggressive type of cancer called Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

Because of this, Coach Scruggs was recommended by his doctor to take a leave of absence from his work so that he could focus on his health. After that, he would undergo six rounds of a chemotherapy called R-CHOP. With the R-CHOP treatment, he would be able to stay and recover at home. On Thursday of this week, Coach Scruggs had a CT scan, which revealed to his doctor that the R-CHOP treatment was not decreasing his lymph nodes, which meant it had made no real progress.

On Thursday, we were told to go to Greenville where they have better treatment options for dad's case. The new plan is for him to undergo five days of more intensive chemotherapy and radiation at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville; it is looking like he could be in the hospital for a week or more. The goal is for him to reach a state of remission, and then do a cell transplant (stem cell or CAR-T).

Many people have reached out to us asking how they can help and/or donate money for hospital/living expenses. As a family, we are typically uncomfortable with accepting money from others, but also know that there is an outpouring of love and support for Coach Scruggs, and many want to help. All money raised will go towards hospital expenses, travel, and meals for the family.

We have been overwhelmed with the amount of prayers and blessings we have received so far. God is really found in his disciples here on earth. Coach Scruggs plans to heal and get back to being his normal self soon. Thank you all!
