Join Dave's Journey to Beat Cancer

Dave Cowart was diagnosed with colon cancer that metastasized to his liver, lungs, and lymph nodes in December 2019. He was given a prognosis of 2 years. For over 4 years, he has remained positive and refused to accept what doctors told him. He has fought and continues to fight!

In 2024, his liver was cleared, leaving only his lungs that still had the cancer. The doctor said she had no explanation, but it looks like someone just scooped the cancer out of his liver. She said there is no medical explanation. We know that it has been the continued prayers and support from his family, friends, and even strangers. (And it helps that Dave remains positive, is a fighter, and VERY hard-headed!)

Early in 2025, he was told they are running out of options in Savannah for treatments, and the tumors in his lungs were growing faster. He went through having a biopsy only to find a new mutation. Luckily, his oncologist found a clinical trial in Houston, Texas, at MD Anderson. After many phone appointments and interviews, he flew out to Houston on March 24, 2025, for the final visit to see if he would be approved for the trial. A couple of days later, he found out he was approved!

On his 60th birthday, March 30, 2025, he pulled out of Bloomingdale, GA, on his journey to Houston, TX! Thankfully, he has a cousin, Missy, who has been so gracious to open her home for him to stay. She lives in Spring, TX, a suburb of Houston, about a 45-minute drive to MD Anderson.

April 1 started with multiple blood tests, EKGs, etc., and even another biopsy. Every day until his first treatment on April 8. The treatment consists of 2 different kinds of chemo and takes about 8 hours for the infusion to complete. He will receive the treatments every other week. Since it is a clinical trial, he has to stay in the Houston area for anywhere from 6-10 weeks as the doctors closely monitor and test him after every treatment. The doctors have even told him that he would continue the treatment as long as he is able and it is working.

With the daily trips back and forth to treatment, the cost of parking (shame on the University of Texas for charging $20/day!), Dave's funds are depleting. He is also hoping to eventually come home after being cleared and just fly out there every other week for the treatments. If you're able, he would greatly appreciate any help he receives.

Thankfully, before the 2nd treatment on April 22, Dave learned that his tumor markers dropped 2 points after the first treatment!!! Keep those prayers coming!

Thank you for all the love and support!
