Join Doug in Raising Support for Jorge's Memorial

My name is Doug Werth, and like many of you, I received the shock of my life on Monday, June 24, 2024, when I was notified of the passing of Jorge Varela, one of my best friends and groomsman in my wedding. Many hours were spent on the softball field and racquetball court with him. He was as solid of a friend as you could get. This one really hurts.

To many, forty-eight years might not be a very long time to live, but Jorge managed to pack a great deal into the short time he had on this earth. He was an incredible friend to many - the kind who showed up with no questions asked to lend his help in any way possible. He was the life of the party - the kind who didn't hesitate to celebrate with those he loved. He was an amazing and proud father - the kind who loved without hesitation. I was lucky enough to call him my friend and lucky enough to be called his friend. Even years from how, when I think back on our friendship, I know I will recall these things about him and I will miss his vibrancy in my life.

Jorge is survived by three awesome children. No amount of money will ease the pain of loss they feel at this time, but I do hope this effort will give them the ability to remember and celebrate their father's life in a way that will comfort and give them peace.
