Join George & Jill in making face shields for NYC
Donation protected
We are a couple of designers in Brooklyn trying to help our friends, nurses, and doctors by making face shields for hospitals throughout the New York City area. This is in an effort to help fill the PPE gap that currently exists within our healthcare system at the moment.
We have partnered with staff at the Brooklyn Hospital and Brookdale Hospital Medical Center - and are also receiving requests from contacts at other hospitals throughout New York City. We will be making hundreds of reusable face shields over the next few weeks and will distribute on an ongoing basis until needs are met by hospitals.
So far the prototypes are quite durable, offer flexible comfortable, don’t fog up much, and fit well over googles and masks. The majority of hospital staff dealing with patients are now required to wear masks as an added layer of security for the high-risk patients coming in.
You can collaborate with us by:
a) Donating a few dollars in collaboration to cover the costs of materials.
b) Volunteering to help make face shields remotely from your homes. Whether you have your own 3d printer, a sewing machine, or just a set of scissors - there are many ways you can help build PPE. We've compiled some resources here:
3d printed face shield: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/25857-prusa-protective-face-shield-rc2
fabric face masks: https://www.deaconess.com/How-to-make-a-Face-Mask
Please stay tuned and help out if you can. It’s a great way to turn fear and isolation into an empowered, loving community. Our healthcare workers are fighting hard for us and it’s time that we get involved and help them in any way we can during this unprecedented situation.
We also want to say that this does not have to just apply to New York City. If you live anywhere in the world you can make these and donate to your local hospital. If we all make 10-50 of these we can fill the gap!
