Join Indi's Fight Against Leukaemia!
Hi family, friends and supporters!
On behalf of the Taylor and Watkins families, we are reaching out to you with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits.
On 29 June, after travelling to Newcastle to see a live NRL game, our usually vibrant six-year-old Indi began suffering severe fatigue and abdominal pains. Concerned, Nikki took Indi to see a doctor and, after several tests, Indi was transferred to John Hunter Hospital where she was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit. Within hours she had been diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Indi, Nikki, Jayson and Levi’s world as they knew it came crashing down.
Indi has already had one surgery, with another to follow shortly, and she will begin chemotherapy in the 2nd week of July, remaining in Newcastle for the duration of her treatment – which is likely to be six months or more.
As you can imagine, this has forced Nikki and Jayson to make some very difficult and life altering decisions. They both work in the health and community sector in Grafton, in which they provide valuable contributions to the Clarence Valley, but have had to step away from their jobs while Indi is getting treatment to ensure she is safe, comfortable, has limited exposure to germs (reducing her risk of infections), is able to make every appointment and has the care she needs to get better as soon as possible.
We're hoping to raise some money to provide crucial financial relief so that Nikki and Jayson can focus on being there for Indi every step of the way. Every donation, no matter the size, will help cover the medical bills, travel expenses and living costs for the family during this challenging time. As a community, we can come together to lighten their burden.
In addition to financial donations, Nikki and Jayson would also like to encourage everyone to consider donating blood. Blood donations are a critical part of treatment for many patients with leukaemia, and your donation could make a significant difference in someone's life.
We are sure they would also love to read any messages of encouragement you have for them, so please send words and prayers of strength and comfort. And don't forget to share this – the more people that see it and the more support they get, the better.
Despite her diagnosis, Indi's resilience and love for rainbows, unicorns and all things sparkly continue to shine brightly. We will try to regularly post updates here as her treatment progresses, as we are sure Indi's unwavering spirit will serve as an inspiration to us all.
