Join Juniper's Fight Against LCH!

As many of you know Juniper and her family have been bravely fighting a battle with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) for over 3 years. Simply put Langerhans cell histiocytosis is a rare disease that occurs when normal Langerhans cells lose their ability to fight infection and instead group together to destroy healthy tissue. This cluster of abnormal cells results in tumor-like lesions that begin to destroy normal tissues in the bones, skin, or other body systems. This battle has been complicated even further as a result of a BRAF V600E mutation of the disease in which Juniper has been diagnosed. Even with the help of some of the most experienced doctors designing a specialized chemo treatment plan which initially pushed the disease into an inactive state, after MRIs early this month, the LCH is back. The fight isn’t even close to over!!!

The systemic involvement of the disease and aggressive treatment needed to fight the disease have been very difficult on Juniper’s little body. Since diagnosis she has also developed two other rare complications. As a result of damage to her pituitary gland she is dealing with diabetes insipidus (causing extreme thirst and excessive urination) and sclerosing cholangitis (destruction of the bile ducts causing liver damage) which is expected to lead to jaundice soon. This means a liver transplant will be needed (most likely more than one). The doctors’ visits, unexpected ER trips, and overnight hospital stays continue to be a common occurrence for Juniper and the family. Major surgery will be required (possibly for more than just Juniper as a member of the family may be the best match for a liver donation). All of this will just continue to put more and more stress on the family as needs continue to grow.

Thru the many ups and downs since diagnosis the Boudreau family has put everything they have physically, emotionally, and financially into this fight. There are really no words to express the journey that they have been on and the strength it has taken to get this far. They need a community of warriors now to help build them back up and give them the strength they need to continue this fight.
