Join Kelly's Fight Against Steven’s Johnson Syndrome

Hello everyone,
I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out to share the story of someone who is very dear to my heart. I met Kelly Marie Barefield-Harris 19 years ago in my second grade classroom. She was one of the sweet faces I had the privilege of teaching every day. As God would have it, my husband and I had the blessing of adopting her entire family as our children’s god family. Needless to say, our families have remained extremely close over the years. Today, Kelly is facing an incredibly challenging battle with Steven’s Johnson Syndrome.
Kelly is a vibrant young woman who has always approached life with optimism and resilience. However, her journey with Steven’s Johnson Syndrome has been nothing short of harrowing. This rare but severe reaction can be triggered by medication or infection, causing painful blisters, skin peeling, and in severe cases, organ damage.
Despite the tremendous physical and emotional toll, Kelly is remaining steadfast in her determination to overcome this condition. She has shown and continues to show incredible strength and courage throughout her treatment, but the road ahead is long and arduous.
As Kelly's, “Auntie Reu”, I am starting this fundraiser to rally support for her and her family during this difficult time. Kelly was admitted to the Tampa General Hospital Regional Burn Center on April 16, 2024 and is still there receiving treatment. At this time, we don’t have information on when she will be released. All funds raised will go towards covering medical expenses, including hospital bills, specialized treatment, and ongoing care. Additionally, these funds will help alleviate the financial burden on Kelly’s husband, Jordan, allowing him to focus on providing love and support during this critical period.
Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in Kelly's journey towards recovery. Together, we can provide her and Jordan with the resources and support they need to face this challenge head-on. Beyond financial support, we covet your partnership in prayer as we trust God with Kelly's complete healing.
Thank you for taking the time to read Kelly's story. Your kindness, generosity, and prayers mean the world to us.
With heartfelt gratitude,
