Kooy's Team for Care

In June of this year, Chris Kooy was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. This followed a period of some health concerns he had been experiencing for a few months and had been seeing his family doctor for. By the time Chris received his cancer diagnosis, the original tumour had spread throughout his pelvis, and to his lymph nodes and liver, making it incurable. Chris started radiation therapy within days of his diagnosis. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy, pain and symptom management at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton.

Chris' care and treatment for Stage IV cancer is well underway. Our goal is to raise over $20,000 in 2020 for our #20, Kooy. This is your opportunity—as his family, friends, fans, team mates, protégés, and coaching colleagues—to show your much needed support and help to meet the financial demands of treatment and beyond.

Off the field, Chris’s most important role is in his family—devoted son, partner to Sandy, and Dad to Sloane. On the field, Kooy wears #20 for Edmonton Scottish Masters, having played with Edmonton Scottish Major Men, and, in his professional career, FC Edmonton. On the sidelines, Coach Kooy has been an integral part of the coaching team for the Edmonton Scottish United SC 2005 boys for eight seasons; as head coach, he led them to an undefeated season as U15 Tier 1 champions and Alberta Soccer’s provincial championship. In each of these arenas, Kooy is respected and loved for his kindness, leadership, dutifulness, quiet humour, and dependability. It’s our honor, now, to show up for him as his team while he undergoes treatment and care.
