Laying Baby Ellerie to rest

Donation protected
It breaks my heart to have to write this update. Sweet Ellerie Sue ("E") passed away peacefully in her Mamas arms at 6:56am on 6/5 at the Boston Childrens Hospital- Cardiac ICU. She put up a courageous fight, but her tiny body just wasn’t strong enough. Any further donations will be used to help Kristy with after-life expenses for sweet Baby E.

I’m setting this up in hopes to help my dear friend, Kristy.

On May 20th at 12:57pm, Kristy welcomed sweet baby Ellerie Sue into the world.

At around 16 weeks in utero, Kristy had an ultrasound done, revealing baby Ellerie had a heart condition. She would then have to take multiple trips to Fetal Maternal Medicine in Portland to discuss further steps in care. From there, they were referred to a Pediatric Cardiologist in Scarborough where they performed multiple fetal echos. She was diagnosed with a few different large heart defects, but Kristy was told they were common problems that could be fixed.

Once baby Ellerie arrived, they quickly discovered even larger problems with her heart. Less than three hours after delivery, Kristy got the heart-wrenching news and was asked to make a choice no mother should have to: Either make baby Ellerie comfortable and let her pass in Kristy’s arms, or have her transported to Boston where she would undergo multiple surgeries with a less than 50% chance of survival.

Kristy chose to give her baby a fighting chance at life, and an urgent call was made to Boston Children's. Within five hours of delivery, baby Ellerie was being transported to Boston and Kristy was being discharged from MMC to meet her down there.

After many meetings, repeat scans, and labs, a plan was set and baby Ellerie went into her first of many surgeries on 5/22.

This surgery was successful and baby Ellerie is stable but critical. Her chest has been left open in preparation for her next surgery, a date that has not been set yet due to a few complications and minor setbacks.

Baby Ellerie is a fighter, and Kristy will be spending the foreseeable future in Boston by her side. I’m trying to take some of the financial burden off of her while she is out of work and in Boston. The last thing she should have to worry about right now is money. If you can contribute, it would be greatly appreciated, and if not, please share.
