Kuya’s needs your help! Patty & Travis have one shot, right now, to stay in business at the heart of Randolph, Vermont — or else, our town will lose Kuya’s for good. Here’s Patty Burns, award-winning bartender and beloved co-founder of Kuya’s at One Main:
Hello everyone. My name is Patty Burns.
During the pandemic, my husband Travis and I opened a little sandwich shop named Kuya’s Sandwiches + Kitchen. Thanks to the people of Randolph, our business grew quickly and became a Randolph staple.
When One Main Tap & Grill came close to closing their doors, we were invited by owners Shane Niles and Josh Niebling to bring our experiences together and give new life to the beautiful corner restaurant, creating Kuya’s at One Main.
We at Kuya’s take great pride in the service we provide to our guests. Kuya’s cuisine is a mix of Southeast Asian, American, and other cultural food. We focus our food & beverage program on trying to source the highest quality ingredients while maintaining a fair price value and accessibility to people from many different walks of life.
On September 29, 2023, our incredible team celebrated our first year as Kuya’s at One Main. In that year, we have employed a good amount of cooks, servers and artists — most of whom still work with us. We have supported and given opportunities to an array of different local musician and artists.
Our diverse staff includes a mix of local residents, immigrants, LGBTQ+ community and both seasoned and new to the industry workers.
Although our business is seemingly thriving, and we are grateful to be very busy, the fact is that the restaurant industry is very tricky. We do our best to staff a restaurant that focuses on service and quality, However, it has not been easy with such unpredictable environments that we have experienced in the past few years.
We have faced so many hurdles recently, including long-lasting effects on Covid, the constant summer rains, and of course the disastrous flooding — all of which created a drastic drop in foot traffic to Randolph.
Due to these challenges, we have decided that the best course of action is to reach out to our community for help. If we don’t reach our goals, we are at great risk of having to close down our restaurant permanently.
We have sat down with our partners and after much discussion, we have decided that we need to set a fund raising goal of $120,000.
By helping us raise this money, you will be ensuring that we can keep our staff, cover our pay roll and continue to better serve you through some of the tough winter months and hopefully much more time to come.
I speak for our whole Kuya’s team when I say, we want to continue to give this place our all and make it last for many years here in Randolph. There is still so much left for us to do!
As we’ve grown our community over the past year, people have often asked what they can do to help us. THIS is IT.
Help us now — join our goal of keeping Kuya’s alive and well in Randolph!
We only have a limited time to make this goal happen. Any donation big or small is helpful.
