Hello All,
LaShelle Smith aka Momma YANS, or as I refer to her as mom, has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. As some of you may know, this will be her 2nd time battling this sickness. Although she was able to ring the bell and finish treatment almost 4 years ago, the war is not over.
Due to my mom working for the government, she is not eligible to receive long term disability this time around. There are some options that we are looking into to handle the increased costs with medical bills and day to day expenses, but we figured that we would create this as well for anyone who is able and wants to help out financially. I know many have and will support my mom through prayers, words of encouragement, providing meals, taking her to appointments and hosting her in their homes as she recovers, but I also know that not everyone can help in this way. The love for my mom extends far and wide, so I don't want to be too proud or limit people in their way of support. My mom and I are similar in the sense that asking for help can be tough because we are wired to do and provide for ourselves, but sometimes we have to allow people to do and provide for us. We can't help her fight cancer. That is something that she has to do alone, even though I know many of us would help fight it with her if we could. BUT we CAN love her. We CAN pray for her. We CAN send words of encouragement. We CAN do these things while she focuses on the fight that is up ahead. I just want her to be able to focus on fighting and healing through this tough process.
So like I said, if anyone can and is willing to help out financially it is beyond appreciated. I don't even have words for the love and support that our family has felt since my mom has received this tough news. All the messages and hugs have truly helped boost our spirits and I believe it's given my mom the extra strength she needs going back into the battle. There is definitely a lot of fear as well, but knowing that there is an army of support behind her means the world. I cannot express how much it means to me that so many people love and support my mom. She truly is my everything and I know she will fight this with everything that she has.
For those who are wondering, chemo will begin on 9/6 and the journey up ahead will extend for about 9 months from start of treatment to the end of recovery. It takes a village and I am thankful to know my mom has one.
Much love from our family.
