Join Liam's Fight for an Independent Future

Our middle son, Liam, has been through more in his young life than most of us can even begin to imagine. Born with the challenges of prenatal drug and alcohol exposure, and a traumatic past that no child should have to endure, Liam’s story is one of resilience, but also of extraordinary need.
Since this past summer, when we finally brought Liam home after a long 20 months in the hospital in Brevard County, we have fought tirelessly to ensure he has the support and care he deserves. Unfortunately, we’ve encountered barrier after barrier when trying to secure the proper services to keep him safe and give him the best chance for a healthy, independent future. Despite our best efforts working with his insurance company and the three state agencies that are supposed to be here to help kids like Liam, we’ve been consistently denied the supports and services he needs.
Liam has been diagnosed with very complicated underlying conditions, which create a significant challenge in managing his behavior and keeping him safe. His extreme distractibility, combined with impulsivity, makes it difficult for us to ensure his safety, both at home and in public. As parents, it’s heart-wrenching to see how these systems meant to support families like ours have failed him, leaving us feeling desperate and unsupported.
Since bringing Liam home, we’ve spent over $60,000 in just eight months trying to keep him safe. And sadly, this amount is just a drop in the bucket compared to what’s ahead. After countless searches and consultations, we’ve found a treatment program that could offer Liam the care he desperately needs. However, this program comes at a cost that is far beyond our family’s means – it will cost us over $330 per day out-of-pocket, which amounts to more than $120,000 per year. His insurance will not cover the full cost, and with the added strain of maintaining therapies for our other two children, we simply cannot shoulder this expense alone.
Liam is a wonderful, kind, and incredibly sweet boy. He didn’t ask for the struggles he faces, nor did he choose the history that has shaped his life. He is worthy of every opportunity to live a fulfilling life, but he needs specialized help to do so. We’re doing everything in our power to avoid a future where he is institutionalized for the rest of his life. We believe that with the right treatment and support, Liam can build the skills he needs to thrive, but we can’t do it without your help.
Please consider donating to help us provide Liam with the treatment he desperately needs. No contribution is too small, and every bit of support will go directly towards his care. We are so grateful for the love, kindness, and generosity of those who have already offered their encouragement, and we are hopeful that with your help, we can give Liam the best shot at a happy, healthy future.
Thank you for taking the time to read Liam’s story and for considering supporting our family as we fight to give him the life he deserves.
