Join Mikey's Journey to Recovery

Hi my name is Andrew Ciavarelli and I own Paws Barkley dog walking service.. This is a gofundme for one of the sweetest dogs I've ever encountered..

Mikey is a five-year-old, thirty pound rescue who came to his family after spending the first one and a half years of his life in a shelter in Mississippi. He was a "foster fail," as his parents knew immediately that they could not let him go to an adoptive family, because he was already in his forever home. When Mikey was adopted, his human mom was pregnant with a daughter, currently three years old, who has only known a world with Mikey in it. Mikey got another human sister last year. He is the kindest pet brother to these girls and has only love to give them. He is always by their sides, offering a belly to scratch, doggy kisses, and endless cuddles. Mikey's adoptive pet parents refer to him as their "furstborn" and he is embedded into every part of the young family's fabric. They are beyond devastated by the events of this attack, yet grateful for every member of Mikey's community who has sent love, prayers, and strength his way.

On Wednesday, December 11th at 1pm, Mikey was viciously attacked by two large off-leash dogs, a grey pitbull and a black mix, while he was with his walker. A long struggle ensued as Mikey fought for his life, dragged by his neck. Mikey sustained multiple life-threatening wounds and internal injuries, including trauma to the brain, scleral hemorrhage, extensive wounds around his neck, including a puncture wound to his windpipe, cervical hemorrhage, and the muscles in his right hind leg were completely severed. There were over 15 additional puncture wounds that Mikey sustained all over his body. He was intubated, received a full blood transfusion, and  was in a 5+ hour surgery under anesthesia to close up his neck and all of his other wounds.

He is currently on Day 6 in the Intensive Care Unit. Miraculously, Mikey has survived this attack and is making slow but steady progress with each day. He is currently stable, breathing and eating small amounts of food on his own. He is somehow standing on all fours and the doctors are hoping to send him home to his family soon. He is a miracle, he is our angel, and he is a fighter. 

Mikey's treatment in the intensive care unit has been considerable and unfortunately, the dogs who attacked Mikey and their owner(s) have not yet been identified to pay the extensive medical bills.
