Our dear friend Mindy is facing one of the toughest challenges of her life with remarkable strength, humor, and resilience. She was recently diagnosed with HER2+ breast cancer — a fast-growing but highly treatable form of cancer. Mindy is currently in the middle of chemotherapy, splitting her treatment between Bozeman Deaconess and the Mayo Clinic. She is facing a mastectomy surgery and radiation in the coming months.
Mindy’s Journey So Far
Despite the difficult road ahead, Mindy’s grace and good spirits have been unwavering:
- Chemo Progress: Mindy is about to complete her 12-week chemo cycle, and the MRI results show that the cancerous mass is shrinking — a huge win!
- Surgery Ahead: Even with positive progress, surgery will still be necessary to ensure the margins are clear.
- Job Loss and Insurance Challenges: Mindy recently lost her job and will soon be without employer-sponsored health insurance. She will continue treatment under new insurance obtained through the open market, but the cost is significant.
- Incredible Spirit: Through it all, Mindy has maintained her signature humor, joking about "bidding her left titty goodbye" and embracing her new Lara Croft/Sigourney Weaver vibe.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Mindy is not one to ask for help — in fact, it took some convincing from Annie and me, along with a few close friends, to set up this campaign. The last thing Mindy wants is to ask her friends and family for financial support, but we know how much her community loves her and wants to stand by her.
