My name is Nellie Schneider-Jardine, and I need your help.
In December, I have my Bat Mitzvah and I am required to do a mitzvah project. A mitzvah project is a project where you do a good deed. I have chosen to collect clothing and raise money to help unhoused people and their families. The money I collect will go directly to Second Story, a charity that helps unhoused young adults. Second Story has residential programs that provide housing, counseling, and life skills support for teenagers experiencing crisis and young people experiencing homelessness, including pregnant and parenting young women and their children.
What is a Bat Mitzvah?
A Bat Mitzvah is a ceremony that happens when a Jewish person turns thirteen. This marks that person as a Jewish adult. What happens at the ceremony is the person who is turning thirteen gets to read from the Torah. There is a lot of preparation that goes into this ceremony, like doing tutoring for a few months and doing a mitzvah project.
Why I chose this for my mitzvah project:
I chose to raise money for this group because homelessness affects many people both young and old. If you choose to help, you can help many people. Any small donation you make helps people in need, and helping means that you did a mitzvah!
