Help Oliver Save Encinitas Parkland!

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Oliver Pratt, and I’m 10 years old. I live in Encinitas, and I’m working hard to help build a park on the L7 property near my home at 634 Quail Gardens Drive. So far, I’ve raised over $5,000 by finding, cleaning (with my little sister Eleanor's help) and selling upcycled golf balls and brownies - a fundraising effort that was inspired by my neighbor Glen Johnson who generously donated $100,000 towards the construction of a park in remembrance of his late wife Sally. With more than 1,000 new homes being built in my neighborhood, I’m asking the city to use L7 to build a park for me, my friends, and the 500 new kids moving here soon. Please join our cause and help us build the Sally Johnson Encinitas Park by donating so we can have a fun, safe place to play!

Helpful information from Oliver's mom, Jesica Pratt:

  • The L-7 property, a 9.4-acre parcel, was purchased by the City of Encinitas in 1998 using Park Funds specifically for "Park Use". Despite being listed as a "Park Site" in the City’s General Plan, some City Council members are pushing for housing instead. Currently, 50+ affordable homes are being proposed for the site.
  • It’s important to me, Oliver, and our supporters to clarify: we are not against affordable housing. Indeed Encinitas needs more affordable housing, but adding another 50+ homes in addition to the 1,000 already being built isn’t in the best interest of our community, roads, or environment. (Roughly 90 of the newly constructed 1,000 units in-fact will be affordable housing)
  • The Affordable Housing Task Force was recently developed and is currently evaluating all city and private owned properties to identify the best location(s) for affordable housing. The L-7 site is still under discussion, but thanks to the community’s efforts, Glen’s generous $100k donation, and our collective fundraising efforts, the Mayor, our City Council + Parks Director Dave Knopp are now seriously considering building a park.
  • Your contribution will help us persuade our Mayor Tony Kranz + our City Council members to move forward with a park. If they decide to build the park, 100% of your donation will go toward its construction, with the total cost expected to be $3-$4 million. The city budget will cover the remaining costs. If our Mayor/Council chooses to build housing, your full donation will be refunded.
  • When/if the city officially votes in favor of building a park, your contribution will be transferred from the GoFundMe account to the city.

Change takes time, so please contribute knowing this process may take months or even years before park construction begins.

Thank you for supporting Oliver’s mission to preserve one of the few remaining open spaces in Encinitas and create a park where our community can gather, play, and connect!

Best,
Jessica Pratt
