Opo's Canon is raising funds to host our "Opo's Canon SoundWater Gala", a free event that will be highlighting Community Abundance over Individual Richness. This will be a FREE event, open to the community. The goal of the event is to fundraise for the short film "Apple Cider", a film telling the story of a young trio that tries to reconnect as a family. Unfortunately, as the night goes on, they struggle to connect with one another as their shared family demons continue to possess the situation at hand.
Opo's Canon looks to submit the film to a few larger festivals this year, and film festival submissions can be quite expensive, so the team is looking to raise funds from this event to support us in our endeavors and appreciate any and all support.
Similar to our previous "Opo's Canon Art Auction", we are looking to highlight different artists showcasing their art, distributing their art during a live auction. This year, we are looking to make the event larger than ever before, with a larger venue, live jazz band performances, a black business showcase highlighting the Creative Hairstyling Brand Created2Create, and a special surprise for those who decide to support us with by purchasing a voluntary VIP ticket.
Opo’s Canon Canon SoundWater Gala will be a night to remember. A space highlighting and cultivating Culture and Inclusivity, Opo’s Canon is looking to create a space of abundance, joy and community love. We look to bring an emphasis on Community Abundance over Individual Richness and the promotion of intentional art. With a live art auction and black hair showcase going throughout the night, we look to highlight art from our communities and share appreciation for the innovation of new art forms and radical ways of organizing within our communities. The theme will be Black-Class.
Black- Richness, African Culture, Mystery and Possibility and Creativity, Unity
Class- Society, Interdependence, Identification and Societal Representation
The attire is to be high-end presenting, with people being encouraged to experiment with what “high-fashion” means to them! Something the color Black is heavily encouraged.
What is SoundWater?
As a community, we are all aware that the media is run by a select few who intentionally push a destructive and toxic narrative towards our communities. These narratives ultimately harm our communities and make it very difficult for people to recognize what it truly takes to organize as a community and make a positive change for our people. Opo’s Canon plans to organize and orchestrate different media projects and spaces that will benefit our surrounding communities. We are putting time and energy to cultivate our communities ourselves rather than simply waiting for their potential assistance. The SoundWater Initiative is our attempt to be an example of a strong community held together by strong ideals.
- The Humanization of all People.
- Understanding the being, function and importance of language and the process of translating thought to action.
- Equality and the understanding that people are only superior in subjective contexts. Superiority is not innate.
- Understanding of our impact on the ecosystem and recognizing the earth as a member of our community.
- Grace for Ignorance but Strength in Ideals
- The recognition of the mind, body and soul as different systems that make up One’s Being, and the careful nurturing of each.
- Strengthening healthy communication practices
- Creating a sense of interdependence within our communities/combating the hyper-independent lifestyles of Capitalist America
- The Encouragement and Cultivation of Innovation, Experimentation and New Art Forms
We look to utilize our Art to strengthen our communities and bring positivity in the world especially during a time where so many of us may feel helpless, powerless or alone.
