Join Schultz Family's Fight for Recovery

My family is navigating a grave and serious situation with my mom. She is in critical condition after having both a heart attack and stroke.

She was hospitalized last week after a heart attack and blood clot in her heart. She was released to come home with a cardiac Life Vest which functions as an external defibrillator. Her heart function was very weak at less than 20%. She was sent home a week later on blood thinners, heart medications, and the Life Vest to try and get her heart stronger. They were going to do this for 3 months.

But, just minutes after we came home, she suffered a stroke and was rushed to LaPorte Hospital ER. She was placed on a ventilator. It was determined the blood clot had traveled to her brain.

She was flown to Munster Community Hospital where she had surgery to remove the clot from her brain. She had left hemisphere damage and remains there in neuro ICU.

She is confused, agitated, can't get words out, and can't comprehend. She can say some things, but a lot of it is babbling. Because she is on blood thinners, she was not a candidate for TPA to dissolve blood clots.

This is all heartbreaking and I am not sure I will ever get my momma back or if she really knows who I am.

She has a very long road of recovery ahead of her with intensive inpatient rehabilitation on all three levels of physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

I am asking for any help you can offer. Her expenses are mounting and any contributions will be so very appreciated.

My mom is only 63 years old and has a lot of life left to live. This is beyond devastating to our family. We are doing all that we can do. My dad hasn't left her side. This is breaking my heart. She will need to go to an LTAC facility to keep getting the medical treatment she needs to get stronger so she can start rehabilitation.
