On April 19th, my little sister was admitted to the hospital for severe abdominal pain and swelling. Skyler was 35 weeks pregnant and just seemed to be having a difficult pregnancy. Little did we know, our world was about to be rocked. During an ultrasound, spots were found on Skyler’s liver. Two days later, on April 21st, Nora James was delivered by c-section. Weighing in at only 3 pounds, 13 ounces, this little girl has been a rockstar and the reason for my sister’s discovered issues. Two weeks after delivery, the “spots on Skyler’s liver” were labeled with a diagnosis. Stage IV colon cancer that has spread to her liver. My little sister is only 31. The joyous event of my niece being born, has been flipped into a living nightmare. To say these last six weeks have been hard, is an understatement. My sweet brother-in-law (Tyler) will be returning to work on Father’s Day. His extended work leave has come to an end. Skyler has already handled 2 rounds of chemo like a champ. Oliver (Skyler’s 4yr old son) has been the comic relief we needed on the darkest of days. It’s been a rollercoaster and the ride isn’t over. I’m usually the first one to know how to jump in and lend help, but I’m at a loss. Help me, help them.
