In the shadows of our educational system, there are countless students like Sophia who endure the pain of bullying, violence, and exclusion. Their voices silenced by fear, their potential stifled by a system that fails to protect them. As a parent and educator, it is agonizing to witness these young souls struggle with mental health challenges and trauma in an environment that should nurture and empower them.
Sophia's story is not hers alone; it echoes the cries of many others who face similar battles every day. They deserve more than a broken system that pushes them to the brink of despair. I have witnessed the heartbreaking journey of moving from school to school, district to district, in search of a haven that remains out of reach.
My heart aches as I share the story of my daughter, Sophia, who has faced relentless bullying, physical attacks, and verbal cruelty in the public school system since 2019.
As a mother and an educator, witnessing Sophia battle Down syndrome, selective mutism, anxiety, and the trauma of being stripped of her needs breaks me. The system has failed her, and my soul is weary from the constant struggle to find her a safe space to learn and grow.
Sophia's journey has been marked by transitions from one school to another, one district to the next, all in pursuit of an inclusive environment that remains elusive. The weight of her depression, anxiety, and now physical challenges has become unbearable, especially as she enters the crucial high school years.
I come to you today with a plea for support for a cause that is deeply personal and urgent. Since 2019, my daughter Sophia, who has Down syndrome and is autistic, has been subjected to relentless bullying in schools in New Jersey, specifically in Hackensack, North Brunswick, and Bridgewater.
This traumatic experience has not only affected her emotionally but has also caused a significant regression in her education.
To add to her challenges, my daughter's dual diagnosis has presented unique obstacles, including selective mutism, which further hinders her ability to communicate and engage in a traditional educational setting.
As she prepares to enter high school, it breaks my heart to see her struggle to find a place within the current educational system that can cater to her complex needs and support her growth.
Having recently traveled overseas to Egypt, specifically to Alexandria, we have witnessed firsthand the stark difference in her social, emotional, and cognitive well-being in environments that prioritize inclusive and supportive special needs education.
It is clear to me that she thrives in settings that understand and accommodate her challenges, allowing her to blossom and learn at her own pace.
This realization has fueled my determination to establish a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing quality special needs education internationally, particularly in regions where such resources are scarce.
By doing so, we aim to create opportunities for children like my daughter, who have Down syndrome and autism, to receive the education and support they deserve to flourish and succeed.
Your support is crucial in helping us turn this vision into a reality. Your donations will be instrumental in setting up and operating the nonprofit, developing tailored educational programs, providing essential resources, and offering assistance to families in need.
I am deeply grateful for any contribution you can offer, no matter the size.
It is also a mission of spreading kindness, understanding, and transformative change.
I am humbly asking for your support. Your generosity will enable us to provide Sophia with the sanctuary she desperately needs to heal, learn, and thrive.
Join us in providing a sanctuary for students facing bullying and exclusion,
Be the change they need today.
