SpaceEka Artists' Residency - Sri Lanka, in partnership with Lauren Wilson of the University of South Carolina - USA, has organized a series of short-term residency programs in Sri Lanka to nurture art, artists, and audiences both nationally and internationally. From June 7th to July 14th, over 30 artists from all across the island are preparing a collective space to share their knowledge and experience.
The SpaceEka Artists’ Residency, led by Jayampathi Guruge, is an alternative cultural space which supports artists to think, live and create. Our main goal is to lay the groundwork towards building an enriching space by strengthening the interconnectedness of thought, practice and creativity. This space, embodied in its alternate culture, lifestyle, thought and art forms is spread across the three main streams of Education, Production, and Research.
Objectives of the Residency Programs:
Foster Cultural Exchange: Bring together artists from diverse backgrounds to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives.
Enrich Local Communities: Engage local audiences with contemporary art practices, enhancing cultural awareness and appreciation.
Build Sustainable Artistic Networks: Create lasting connections between artists, curators, and art enthusiasts, both locally and internationally.
How these funds will be used:
Residency Facilities: Ensuring that artists have access to living and working spaces equipped with the necessary tools and materials.
Travel and Accommodation: Covering travel costs to make the residency accessible to artists from different parts of the world.
Workshops and Programs: Organizing workshops, lectures, and exhibitions to enhance the learning and sharing experience.
Community Engagement: Implementing outreach programs that connect artists with local communities through art education.
