Hello, my name is Kirsten and I'm fund raising to help my daughter and her beautiful family while she battles cancer.
The cheerleader for the underdogs, Rachel is a glimmer of hope in this world.
Rachel Baugh is a 33 year old loving wife to Richard, a beautiful mommy of two boys, Levi (5 yrs old) and Landon (1 yr old). Rachel is the oldest sister of 3 girls, and a friend to many. However you've been graced with Rachel's presence, we can all agree that she's made a lasting impact on us all.
Rachel is usually the one to go out of her way to help others, this time she needs the help herself.
This illness is totally unexpected. Two months ago, my daughter was living a normal life having a 1st birthday party for her baby. In September Rachel went to the ER with a high fever, vomiting, and pain in her side and right arm. We thought it would be an easy recovery at the Hospital. Two months, three hospitals, numerous doctors and medical tests later...
October 29, 2021 we finally got some answers, but they weren't what we had expected to hear. Rachel is in stage three of an extremely rare form of cancer called Hepatic Sarcomatoid Carcinoma Spindle Cell.
It’s an extremely rare, very aggressive type of spindle cell cancer. The placement of this tumor is centrally located in the caudate lobe in her liver which makes this inoperable. When she was first diagnosed the tumor was 3cm (the size of an Oreo cookie), only 4 weeks later it is 7.5 cm (the size of a grapefruit). Three hospitals later (Spectrum Health Cancer Center in Grand Rapids, Holland Hospital in Holland, and University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan) along with her primary care doctors in Holland & a large wide range team of cancer doctors later, we finally were referred to an oncologist that specializes in rare cancers at University of Michigan Cancer Center in Ann Arbor. This oncologist, Dr. Chrysler, has only treated two cases of this extremely rare cancer in all her years helping cancer patients and never in the placement of the liver.
... but ... our GOD is Bigger than Sarcomatoid Carcinoma!
This may seem like a lot to most people - to Rachel this is nothing that God hasn’t already taken into his hands. We believe that Rachel's story with God's power will fight this.
Rachel needs to focus on being strong & healthy without worrying about the medical bills or added financial & physical stress Cancer can have on a person. This Fundraiser to offset whatever financial hardships her family is facing at this time.
Rachel has always been strong, independent, and likes to do things on her own.
I believe this is one of the best and quickest ways to help her and Richard get through this battle.
This Go Fund Me will be used for the cost of living, mortgage, utilities, auto payment, babysitting for their boys during her treatment days, medical appointments, and gas money for the 3 hour drive to and from their home in Holland to the Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Richard's work is still in the process of approving FMLA for him. The days he takes off work, he will not be paid. He's trying everything he can with his work to be able to keep the benefits of his medical insurance & provide for his family.
··· A little about Rachel for those who do not know her:
She loves the outdoors camping and being at the lake fishing with her boys or just soaking in the sunshine. She's always been healthy and even ran in a half marathon with Richard & other family members in 2019.
She was a manager & district manager for Cato (a women's clothing retail chain) for 13 years. She decided to be a stay at home mom after their baby was born (during the 2020 pandemic slowdown), but took on a part-time job to help her husband with finances a bit in the spring of 2021. Rachel has always been a hard worker that liked to stay busy.
Rachel is and always has been the strongest woman I know with her positive faith in God and has given us all so much joy.
Even with the faith of a miracle of healing from this Cancer is in the forefront for Rachel, her family is her biggest concern.
Many of you have asked me how you can help along with your monetary gift. The answer I can give you would be - PRAYERS - prayers, are definitely the most important right now! Other ways of helping this family could be sending cards or notes of encouragement to them all, offering service of babysitting, household chores & yard work, meal preps, gift cards of any kind, or just simply giving of your time doing whatever you think would bring them joy during this difficult time.
We're not looking for sympathy right now, we really need a miracle, all the help and prayers for Rachel, Richard, their two little boys along with her medical team.
I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart!
