Hi Everyone-
Jay here, with a mid-summer update. Sam continues to soldier through his treatments with an inspiring mix of fortitude, optimism and even good humor. Quite honestly, he's been my North Star on this journey, motivating me to keep showing up even when I feel exhausted, overwhelmed and struggling to access my best self.
In just a few more weeks, Sam will complete interim maintenance 2—the fifth and final of the high dose chemo infusions that make up year one of treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. From there, he enters 18 months of maintenance therapy, monthly clinic visits, regular at home medications, lower dosages, and finger crossed, more energy of body, mind and spirit to get back to work and school. Everything is going incredibly well so far. Sam is on the path to cure and we're so grateful to his amazing team of doctors and nurses at the Maine Children's Cancer Program.
When we launched the GoFundMe back in the spring, we didn't know what to expect. While it made sense and is designed to help when facing this exact sort of challenge, it wasn't an easy thing for me to do. I struggle sometimes with the emotions and self worth challenges that come with life's financial ups and downs. Maybe you do too? Anyway, we've been humbled by everyone's generosity and are so incredibly grateful. As Sam nears maintenance, we'd like to make one final push to meet our original goal of $25K. If you've given before, would you mind sharing this on your social channels. And if the timing hasn't worked for a contribution, perhaps now is a more convenient time to chip in? Sending love, light and gratitude to you all.
