Dr. Tina Kien recently retired from The University of Texas Athletics Department after 25 years of making sure we were eligible to compete, that we made our best grades by using tutors and mentors, that we graduated, and left UT with a great job or graduate school plans. On top of being a supportive adult and role model guiding us as we transitioned into young adults, you can bet that Tina was the one working behind the scenes and worked with the athletics department to set up volunteering opportunities.
Recently, Tina was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and she has started chemotherapy in preparation for cancer removal surgery in August. The chemo treatments have led to blood clots in her lungs adding yet another layer to an already difficult situation. This will be a hard fought battle but one that she is determined to WIN with your support, prayers and healing vibes.
Although Tina is always willing to give you the shirt off her back, you already know that she is not the type of person who easily accepts the same support that she would so freely give others. It is more than a challenge for her to put herself first during this time. While she would love to see you, and visit with you it’s imperative that she focus all of her attention on healing and protecting her immune system. There are multiple ways you can show your support for Tina as she fights pancreatic cancer.
