Please see final update below. Thank you from Shae, Lynn and Allen.
On February 17, 2021, 22-year old Shae was rushed by ambulance to Victoria General Hospital. ER physician, Dr. Findlay, ran blood tests and discovered that Shae has a form of leukemia.
She was quickly medivacked to Vancouver General Hospital.
On the morning of the 18th, Shae underwent a bone marrow biopsy to determine the type of leukemia and has been diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. She began her first round of intensive chemo on Friday - what a whirlwind of events for the Hamilton family!
Shae will be in Vancouver General Hospital for at least 4 weeks. No thanks to covid, Lynn and Allen are not able to visit her at the hospital but are trying to make it over every week to bring her a care package and be a little closer for even a few minutes.
Once Shae's hospital treatment is complete, she will need to stay in Vancouver for approximately 3 to 4 months to receive specialized treatment that it is only offered in Vancouver.
Lynn will be staying with her during this time and will not be able to work. This close knit family will need a place for Lynn and Shae to safely live while Shae continues her treatment and for Allen to come when he is able to get time off work.
Rents are high in Vancouver, even for something simple. Along with that, the costs associated with travel to and from the Island will add up fast.
We are starting this gofundme to provide much needed financial support to Shae, Lynn and Allen. We want to lift the burden of worrying about finances so they can focus on getting Shae healthy and bringing her home.
No matter the donation, $5 or $50 or $100 or more, it all adds up and will be deeply appreciated.
