Aloha, my name is Malia, on behalf of one of my closest and dear friends Jaime Rabelas. We (our friends The Tribe, my ohana, and I) are starting this gofund me page for her. Jaime is a 16-year breast cancer survivor (in 2005, she was 28 years old when she encountered her first fight with breast cancer, Invasive ductal carcinoma of the right breast stage 3 C), and now she is in a second battle to beat breast cancer again.
Recently, being re-diagnosed with Ductal carcinoma in SITU of the left breast, Jaime has begun the process of her treatment on the island of Oahu at Kapiolani women's center and Kapiolani medical center for women and children (the same facility she went to 16 years ago but a different team of doctors). She will be under the care of a great team of doctors and nurses who specialize in the breast cancer/cancer field. General surgeon/breast cancer specialists Dr. Laura Peterson, plastic/reconstructive surgeon Dr. Christopher Tokin and hematology/oncology Dr. Jami Fukui. Jaime is confident and has faith in her team that they will help her conquer breast cancer again.
We love and care for her so much that we humbly ask for your help (kokua). Please kokua by donating to this go fund me. Your generosity will help her financially to pay for medical bills, airfare to fly from Kauai to Oahu for treatment and all other costs that come when battling cancer.
Jaime has chosen the treatment option that requires major surgery as the first step in her treatment. On February 9, 2022, her surgical team performed a left breast mastectomy, left sentinel lymph node biopsy, a possible axillary lymph node dissection, and reconstructive surgery. This procedure will determine what stage, how severe the cancer is, and what type of treatment is required.
Jaime is now recovering at her sister's home. She will be in recovery until mid-April 2022. She will be on a TDI and leave of absence from her employer. During this recovery, she will have to fly back and forth from Kauai to Oahu for doctors' appointments and possibly radiation and / or chemotherapy treatment (if the cancer has metastasis to other parts of her body). We are praying for good results and that the cancer has not spread.
If you know Jaime, she's one tough cookie, but we all know her as one tough, "TooTie." As Jaime would say (with a big smile on her face), "I'm a down-to-earth insane person, just trying to survive." But to us she's "TooTie or TooTz" a loving mom to her 4-year-old son our miracle nephew Brycen (she was advised not to have children during her first battle with cancer), a hard worker who is dedicated to her career as a cook with the Kauai Marriott for 23 years (now under new ownership, Royal Sonesta Kauai), a devoted girlfriend to the love her life Bryce and an all around genuine human being that loves the life she has been Blessed with.
We all physically want to be by her side during this time, but our own personal lives make it hard for us to do. Jaime has been keeping all of us informed of everything that she is going through. We know that Jaime is capable of beating cancer again, but we also know that this fight is weighing on her. So we ask that you pray for her and help us lift this worry and burden that's weighing her down. Our dear friend has gone through so much in her 44 years of life that we hope this gofund me will help her out during this tough time.
