Join Us in Daniel's Battle with Neuroblastoma

On January 12th, 2025, we brought our son Daniel (Danylko) to the pediatrician after he began feeling unwell following the holidays. Despite multiple office visits, treatments for pneumonia-like symptoms, and an overnight in the ER, his condition continued to deteriorate. A chest tube was placed to drain the fluid from his lung but his relief was temporary. Our world was turned upside-down when a CAT scan revealed a mass in his chest. We were urged to transfer him to a hospital specializing in pediatric oncology and, having previously dealt with Peter's cancer diagnosis in 2020, we feared the worst.

Once transferred to Hackensack Meridian Hospital, additional scans confirmed a 15cm tumor spanning his chest and abdomen was pressing on his left lung, causing continued fluid buildup and severe breathing difficulties. Danylko was placed on a BiPAP machine to aid and regulate his breathing. This was quickly followed by numerous procedures, biopsies, and scans. The following two weeks of waiting for test results felt like years. When they finally came in, they delivered the heartbreaking diagnosis: High-Risk Neuroblastoma.

Danylko’s treatment plan is extensive and expected to span 14 to 18 months. This includes multiple rounds of chemotherapy, invasive surgery, stem cell harvesting/transplants, radiation, and immunotherapy. While we are doing all we can to support him, the road ahead is challenging — not only physically and emotionally, but financially as well.
