In 2013, our dear friend Viv left everything behind in South Africa to start afresh in Australia, determined to build a better life for her three daughters. As a single mother, Viv worked tirelessly, often juggling three jobs to give her girls every opportunity she believed they deserved. Despite these challenges, Viv never lost sight of her dream: in 2018, she began studying nursing to secure a stable future for her family. It was during this time she met Dale, the love of her life, and for the first time, she began to see a brighter path ahead.

But life took a devastating turn. In her final year of nursing school, Viv was diagnosed with stage 1b3 cervical cancer. After months of gruelling chemotherapy, radiation, and a radical hysterectomy in 2023, she believed she had finally beaten it. She achieved her dream of becoming a registered nurse and was ready to give her girls the secure future she had worked so hard for.

Then came September 2024, and with it, heartbreaking news: the cancer had returned, now diagnosed as recurrent metastatic cervical cancer. Doctors had previously told Viv that if it returned, conventional medicine could offer no further solutions. As mothers ourselves and close friends of Viv, we can only imagine the fear she feels, knowing how desperately she wants to be here for her daughters - to guide and support them and to share in all their important milestones.

But there’s a glimmer of hope. Viv has discovered Hope 4 Cancer in Mexico, a centre offering alternative therapies aimed at treating the root cause of her disease, not just its symptoms. This is her chance to fight cancer from the foundation, to heal in ways traditional treatments cannot provide. But Viv cannot do this alone.
