Hello. I am the husband to an amazing woman. She is a fantastic , loving mother of two and step-mom of two more in college. A short while ago my wife had a mammogram. The doctors found a lump in her left breast. After scans and a biopsy, she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. HER2 positive breast cancer to be exact. Cancer is one of those things that is becoming more and more common. In fact 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. 1 IN 8!! That isn't counting all the other types of cancer. I know many of you have fought your own battle or know someone who has. My father passed away with kidney cancer. My mother had kidney cancer, and my grandfather had cancer as well. There are great cost with cancer. Not just financial ones. Emotional and physical ones. While chemo is designed to kill cancer, it also attacks your body in all types of ways. While technology has improved so much over the years, there is still no real replacement for chemo. HER2 positive breast cancer used to be associated with a very high mortality rate. Now because of advances in targeted therapy, thw prognosis doesn't have to be bad. So we are hopeful fir the future as she started chemo and treatment today.
