Join Us in Producing Holy Foley! The Concept Album

Hi Everybody:

I am raising funds to finance a concept album to help promote my new musical, Holy Foley! The concept album will feature all of the songs I have written for the show, but I need your help. This concept album will cost $15,000 to produce.

The end of this fundraiser will be December 30, 2024, as I am heading into the studio to record the album on the second week of January.

We are currently in the process of getting the orchestrations and vocal arrangements completed. Then we will rehearse with the singers, and record in the studio at the beginning of the new year and do a final mix.

At that point, the goal is to use this concept album to attract financing for the show to be staged theatrically. I am also workshopping the libretto with actors and will be doing public readings of the musical.

Who am I?: Let me introduce myself to those of you who don't know me. I am Vanessa Theme Ament. I am a Foley Artist, singer, songwriter, and actor. I have been in the entertainment industry my entire adult life.

I have sung professionally since I toured with Shirley Jones fresh out of high school. I also am a songwriter and have been a member of BMI for over thirty years. I have written songs for movies and live shows. As an equity actor, I love being on the stage, especially singing and acting in musicals. You may have seen me performing Foley with David Letterman in July 1989, or talking about Foley and musicals on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) with Ben Mankiewicz back in June 2018.

The Inspiration behind Holy Foley!: My current musical project, Holy Foley!, brings together all these threads in my professional life. I wrote all the songs and the libretto for a new two act musical. It is a "back stage" story inspired by my own experiences in Hollywood as a professional Foley Artist, as well as based on my book, The Foley Grail, which is a popular and widely used book on the art and craft of Foley.

Synopsis of Holy Foley!: The story takes place in the present day on a Foley stage, with flashbacks to 1980s Hollywood. It follows the career and personal life of a Foley artist named Genevieve and her interactions on the Foley stage with her work colleagues, Jerome and Anahid, and a visit with PhD interviewer Samantha. Over the course of the musical, we experience the challenges they all face in the fast-changing world of post-production film sound.
