Paws for a Cause: Together, We Can Make a Difference!

As a special project for our civics class at UNT, we are raising awareness and donations for the Humane Society of the United States. The Humane Society was created to protect animals from cruelty, abuse, neglect and exploitation. We want to address how this organization is acting on this nationwide issue and to spread the word about how the community can get involved in preserving the lives of our little furry friends.

Animal cruelty remains a significant issue, with countless animals suffering in puppy mills, wildlife exploitation, and cosmetic testing. In 2023 alone, HSUS rescued over 500 dogs from puppy mills and addressed 4,100 reports of animal cruelty (“Stopping Puppy Mills,” Humane Society of the United States, 2023). Through the Horrible Hundred Report, HSUS sheds light on unethical practices in puppy mills, raising public awareness and leading to over 480 local bans on the sale of puppy mill animals in pet stores. Legislative wins, such as the ban on wildlife killing contests in ten states and the ban on animal-tested cosmetics in eleven states, further reflect their dedication to animal welfare (“Wildlife Killing Contests,” Humane Society of the United States, 2023).

Your donations will support critical rescue operations, including transportation, medical care, and sheltering for animals in distress. Funds also help HSUS expand its public education efforts and strengthen animal protection laws, ensuring long-term solutions to combat cruelty (“Achievements for Animals 2023 Annual Report,” Humane Society of the United States, 2023). By contributing, you’re helping create better outcomes for animals in desperate need of a second chance.

You can join us in making a difference by donating to this campaign. To learn more about Humane Society of the United States, visit www.humanesociety.org. Let’s come together to protect our furry friends and make a lasting difference!
