Join Us in Rebuilding a Stronger Spruce Pine
Donation protected
Help rebuild downtown Spruce Pine. I am Joshua Newton, and I own a family practice clinic that was in downtown Spruce Pine (the red brick building at the center of this picture). We have been devastated by Hurricane Helene, with every storefront on Lower Street being destroyed. Our community received some of the highest rainfall totals in the region, but we are a small community with few resources and limited national attention. Our building was decimated, with water covering the entire first floor and almost reaching into the second floor.
We are trying to help our community rebuild and come out stronger from this monumental disaster. Any money donated will go directly to rebuilding Lower Street businesses and buildings as well as reestablishing medical care in our community. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Updates:
-The first floor has been completely gutted and cleaned thanks to an amazing level of volunteer support.
-The second floor now has power and internet. We have been told that water and sewage will be much longer (permanent 1+ year, temporary- months), so we are using portapotties, hand sanitizer and jugs of water.
-We have begun regular outreach clinics into the community to go to the more isolated areas.
-We have opened our upstairs office to full operations. We are seeing a lot of mental health issues but also treating respiratory illness from the massive amount of silica rich dust everywhere. We also have cuts, scrapes, insect stings, and sprains/strains.
-We have been able to distribute tons of supplies to those in need and those caring for the ones in need.
