Our beloved Mary Irene (Floy) Locke recently passed away on December 16, 2024 at age 71. She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandma, Sister & Aunt, who touched the lives of those around her.
Mary Irene (Floy) Locke was born on August 12, 1953, in Mason City, IA to Lee and Doris (Spitler) Floy, their second daughter. She grew up mostly in Iowa, where she got into an appropriate amount of mischief with her siblings, cousins and friends. She graduated from Iowa School for the Deaf, Class of 1972 and soon after, she married her high school sweetheart, Rodney on August 18, 1973. To this union, two sons were born. Mary dedicated her life to her family and was an active member in the local Deaf community. She was often seen cheering from the sidelines at her boys’ games and she made sure it was always an adventure on roadtrips to out-of-state games and tournaments. She was the “cool” aunt/mother figure to many and she loved to tease or teach signs you shouldn’t be teaching a kid. Mary enjoyed attending Deaf clubs & Iowa Association of the Deaf (IAD) conferences, bowling & darts, and cooking. A devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears, you would find her on the couch or in a bar watching games on the weekends. She was friendly to anyone who crossed paths with her.
She leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Rodney Locke of Glenwood, IA; sons Jason Locke, of Glenwood, IA and Jay Locke and daughter-in-law, Amy Korbelik of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren, Cassandra Locke of Cedar Rapids, IA, Caitlin Locke of Omaha, NE, Savannah Locke of Cedar Rapids, IA and Jayden Locke of Lincoln, NE; three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Kelley, Jacey Kelley, and Raylynn Kelley; sister, Liana Anderson & brother-in-law, C. Michael Anderson of Billings, MT; two step-sisters, Gloria Miner of Grinnell, IA, Gail Wallace, one step-brother, Greg Nicholson; niece Megan Vasko of Billings, MT and many great-nieces & great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Brian Anderson and a great-granddaughter, Abbigail.
We are all devastated by Mary’s sudden loss and were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service. We want to give Mary the memorial she deserves, to honor her memory and say our last goodbyes.
