Join Us In Restoring Joan's Home

This is Joan. She is 78 and lives in Chesterfield, VA. Her husband of 55 years, Raymond, went to Heaven in 2024, and she is now surviving on her own. She is living on a small, fixed income every month, unable to afford repairs on her home. In turn, her home is falling into disrepair.

My uncle called me to ask if I could help him put a tarp on the back portion of the roof of her home because of a roof leak. He attempted to describe the poor condition the house is in, but truly, words can't describe it. I had not visited the home in years and did not fully understand the condition of her home until the day I stopped by. It's not ready to be torn down, but it does need everything.

That's where you come in. Her family wants to restore her home to its former glory for her. We intend to celebrate the home's original architecture and make it the adorable home it once was, but it's going to be a big, expensive job, and her family needs your help to be successful.

First things first, the trees need work. We can't start on the home without first making sure it's safe. The trees are massive and have never had any maintenance. We will have an arborist remove or limb up the trees in danger of falling on the house; we don't want the house to incur damage to any new work performed.

Her home's exterior needs everything to be weather-tight and energy-efficient: roof, siding, windows, paint, and so on. We will have to peel back the layers and do some exploratory surgery to look for hidden problems (rot, possible previous wood-destroying insect damage, etc.) that need to be addressed before we are able to start putting it back together. Wherever we can get insulation in to make her home cozy and efficient, we absolutely will. We also hope to be able to replace the rear deck with a new, safe deck where she can enjoy the weather.

Once Joan's home is weather-tight, our plan is to move inside and make improvements. We will prioritize systems like plumbing and electrical so that she has peace of mind, and hopefully, there will be money in the budget for a new, efficient HVAC unit, as Joan currently only has a window unit and propane heat. Her home has one bath and a modest kitchen, so upgrades to those rooms are on the wishlist. Paint, flooring, light fixtures, and a general once-over to make sure everything functions properly are also on that wishlist.

Once Joan's home is completed, any remaining funds, if any, will go to Joan for decorating her restored home and anything else she sees fit.

Her family can't thank you enough for any help you can provide. If you can't afford to donate, we humbly ask that you consider sharing her story on your social media so that others may see her story and be given the opportunity to donate.

We will be sure to make timely updates so everyone can see the progress!
