Join us in saving the forests of the world

We are Martin and Katja, a danish couple currently on a grand bicycle journey from Nepal to Turkey. A one year journey that will take us 12.000 km (7.500 miles) from the big mountains of Himalaya, along the historic Silk Roads to the deserts in the Arabian peninsula and end in Turkish Anatolia.

Our passion? Cycling, obviously.

Besides cycling, we want to protect our magnificent planet and its inhabitants.

In 2022-2023, we cycled 22,600 km (14.000 miles) across South, Central and North America, witnessing firsthand the profound impact of climate change and the devastating exploitation of natural resources in communities worldwide.

Throughout our journey, we met so many wonderful and remarkable people. People who didn’t always have much, but who welcomed us, invited us in, offered us fruit, water, food and shelter. They opened their hearts to us and shared their stories with us.

We felt the warmth of the people, and their firsthand stories about the challenges they face every day made a big impact on our view of globalization and the effects of climate change.

We slept in the backyard of a Bolivian orphanage, where children orphaned by the mining industry face a bleak future. In this region of Bolivia, the life expectancy is only 50 years. Most likely, these children will start working at the mine when they turn 12 and suffer the same fate as their parents.

We cycled through the Amazon Rainforest and witnessed the alarming pace of deforestation to make way for agriculture, with burning fields and endless trucks laden with palm oil fruit.

We have seen indigenous peoples’ communities being burned down, as they lost their status of protection with the loss of the forest surrounding them. The plight of indigenous communities, losing their homes as the forests disappear, weighed heavily on us.

All these experiences have built up in our hearts and compelled us to act.

That’s why we have chosen to partner up with Forests of the World, a Danish organization dedicated to preserve and protect forests globally and support indigenous peoples in their struggles for rights, self-determination, and cultural self-identification.

We have chosen to support Forests of the World, because they fight for the world´s forests side by side with indigenous communities.
