Dear family and friends,
We are organizing this fundraiser for our beloved Mossa Barandao, who is currently fighting for his life in the intensive care unit in Shantou, China.
Mossa was visiting China with friends for a wedding and decided to go on an early morning run, as he often does back home. Unfortunately, Mossa collapsed while on this run from suspected heat stroke and was rushed to the hospital where he fell into a coma and is now battling for his life with many complications. He is currently on a ventilator, dialysis, and daily blood transfusions.
In addition to the emotional turmoil his family and friends are dealing with due to this unexpected medical emergency, the hospital is requiring that his medical bills be paid up front in cash, which is an added stress to the family who are focusing on Mossa’s recovery and healing. Mossa has health insurance, but the hospital in China is not accepting any US health insurance or credit cards. The family has already contributed $27,000 cash for just a few days of care, and we are anticipating that he will be there for at least another 30 days. The family is also seeking medical intensive care air transport back to the USA, which will be another large financial cost anywhere from $50k to $225k. Contribution to Mossa’s recovery fund will alleviate the financial burden on the family, and is deeply appreciated, but we are also asking for prayer.
Mossa is a pillar in the D.C. community and prides himself in his work through the THEMBA Foundation. He also started Homeland Togo Project, which is an organization that supplies resources and educational opportunities in Togo, W. Africa. Outside of his work, he is full of light and adventure, and spends most of his time long-distance running and is an expert table tennis player. He is an athlete through and through who was in top-notch health. Thus, to see Mossa in this state is devastating, though he was doing what he loved. We have faith that these contributions and prayers will result in full restoration and healing for our dearest Mossa, and that he will eventually return home and run again.
Thank you in advance for the support.
